Explore Loch Sport and the Gippsland Lakes

Loch Sport is a narrow ribbon of sand with Lake Victoria on one side and Ninety Mile Beach on the other — calm water for the kids in the morning, surf beach in the afternoon, and The Lakes National Park at the end of the road.

Things to do in Loch Sport

  • Swimming on Lake Victoria. Shallow, sheltered and sandy — the lake beach at the bottom of our garden is a safe place for children to spend a whole day.
  • Fishing the lakes and Ninety Mile Beach. Bream, flathead and whiting in the lake system; surf fishing over the dunes on the ocean side.
  • Paddling, sailing and water-skiing. Launch a kayak or paddleboard straight from the beach; the broader lake gives sailors and skiers plenty of room.
  • Cycling The Lakes National Park. Quiet gravel tracks through banksia and coastal scrub, with lookouts over the lakes.
  • Wildlife spotting. Kangaroos, echidnas, pelicans, black swans and sea eagles — often from the deck, coffee in hand.

Eat and drink in Loch Sport

Loch Sport may be small, but you will not go hungry. Start the day with a flat white and breakfast roll, pick up fresh bread and pastries for the lake, then settle in for a casual dinner as the sun goes down.

  • Nauti Bites Cafe. A local favourite with a 4.8 rating for good reason — generous burgers, fish and chips, dine-in or kerbside pickup. Great for a lazy lunch after a morning on the water.
  • Lochy Coffee. The go-to for takeaway coffee and light bites when you are heading to the lake or the beach.
  • Loch Sport Bakery. Perfect for fresh bread, pies, sausage rolls and sweet treats to take back to the deck. Closed Wednesdays.
  • Loch Sport Kebabs. A permanent Kebab Van serving authentic kebabs, HSP, falafel and hot chips perfect stop on the way home from the beach. At the BP Service Station and Mini Mart.
  • NEIRBOS EATS. A food truck — worth keeping an eye out for on local socials for their current location and specials.
  • Loch Sport Marina Hotel. Currently closed for renovations until further notice, so check before you visit.
  • Loch Sport RSL. A friendly club atmosphere, opens from 5 pm on Saturdays. Reasonably priced meals and drinks according to locals.

Sale and Bairnsdale are each about an hour away, with full supermarkets, wineries and sit-down restaurants.
